Holganix announces root competition

The company wants to discover the healthiest turf roots in three industries.

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Holganix, a manufacturer of 100% organic, bionutritional turf and plant products, has announced that the “Holganix Roots for You!” competition is back for a second year. The goal is to unearth the healthiest turf roots in America. The competition is divided into three industry segments including Lawn Care, Golf and Sports Turf. The winner of each category will be awarded a $500 cash prize, as well as a $500 donation, made in their name to their professional industry association.  The lawn care association donation will go to the Professional Landcare Network (PLANET), while the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) will receive the golf donation, and the Sport Turf Management Association (STMA) will be the recipient of the sports turf donation.

“We were very happy with the outcome of last year’s competition and are excited to be bringing it back for a second year,” said Holganix CEO Barrett Ersek. “Last year’s lawn care winner, Total Lawn Care of Indianapolis, boasted a 13-inch root!” reported Ersek. The Golf and Sports Turf segment winners were equally impressive. The golf winner was Noble Hawk Golf Links of Indiana with a 9 1/2-inch turf root, while the Pittsburgh Pirates were named winner for the sports turf division with their nine-inch turf root.

According to Dr. Neidermyer, Director of Plant and Soil Sciences at Holganix, having a strong and deep root system is important for the turf and directly correlates to the overall health of the turf. Creating healthy turf is akin to constructing a house; with the emphasis on building a solid foundation that will uphold the rest of the structure.  Roots act as the foundation for plants guiding their health and growth.

“At the end of the day, we’re excited that our customers are getting such amazing results and we can’t wait to see this year’s results in our root competition,” stated Ersek.
