Association News: Oct. 1997

The Professional Grounds Management Society has begun work on a Professional Landscapers Course, which will be introduced at the Green Industry Expo. The course is designed to enable students to obtain a position as a groundskeeper or landscaper and will teach how to identify and maintain various plant types, understand proper pesticide application procedures and understand various residential and commercial design principles.

On Nov. 1, the Ohio Lawn Care Association will apply fertilizer and weed control to the grounds of the Dayton Veterans Administration Medical Center and the Dayton National Cemetery. The event will start at 10 a.m.

The American Nursery & Landscape Association honored Phineas Tuthill, R.P. Tuthill & Associates, Washington Crossing, Penn., with its 1997 Wholesale Nursery Sales Professional Award.

The Washington Association of Landscape Professionals will host the seminar, "Right Plant in the Right Place," presented by Plant Publicity Holland and the Interational Flower Bulb Centre of Holland, on Nov. 8 in Mt. Vernon. The Oregon Landscape Contractors’ Association will host the seminar on Nov. 14 in Camby.

The International Society of Arboriculture elected: Al Cherry, president; Dan Neely, president-elect; and Gary Watson, vice president.
