PLANET Gives Back will beautify downtown Louisville

The group of 75 volunteers will focus most of their efforts on Meyzeek Middle School.

HERNDON, Va. — PLANET will hold the fourth annual PLANET Gives Back project, a volunteer service event, Wednesday, Oct. 22, during this year’s 25th anniversary of the Green Industry Conference (GIC) in Louisville, Ky.

A group of approximately 75 PLANET member volunteers will focus the majority of their efforts this year on Meyzeek Middle School, a public school in Louisville that focuses on math, science and technology. This project site was identified through YouthBuild Louisville, an education, job training and leadership program organization designed to help young adults realize their potential.

PLANET Gives Back volunteers will spend their afternoon landscaping the school grounds, performing maintenance on perimeter fences, and beautifying the front entrances with the use of raised planter beds. In addition to work at Meyzeek Middle School, PLANET Gives Back will also work at the neighboring St. Vincent de Paul, one of the oldest social service charities in Louisville, where they will be installing a number of trees.

“We are pleased to continue our community service efforts in downtown Louisville for the fourth annual PLANET Gives Back,” said Mike Mason, PLANET Gives Back project manager. “This opportunity allows PLANET members to not only beautify another community, but also showcase their skills, enhance the environment and solidify partnerships with community organizations.”

The number of volunteers for this project is limited to 75 and there are some openings still available. For more information about PLANET Gives Back or to register, visit PLANET’s website at www.LandcareNetwork.org, or call the PLANET office at 800-395-2522.
