The homeowners had recently purchased this home in Columbus, Ohio, when they called the designer, Archie C. Suttles, looking to rework their back patio area. The existing wooden deck was in poor shape, rotting and falling apart, and the homeowners wanted a patio that was appropriate for having fun and conducting business.

- The homeowner wanted a space adjacent to the her home office that could serve as an area where she could entertain sales clients.
- To accomplish this, the designer created a curved bar with a stainless steel grill and prep space that is accessible directly from the homeowner’s home office. This space is one step above grade from the rest of the patio, which helps to define it as a separate area.
- Lights under the step and under the bar add ambiance when the sun goes down and viburnums behind the grill help to screen the neighbor.
