Cabo in the northwest

The project was the culmination of a long-time dream for a customer of Alderwood Landscaping.

A homeowner just outside of Spokane, Washington, wanted a fully functional outdoor resort with space to entertain, play and enjoy the view. With an extensive property in the area, she and the team from Alderwood Landscaping coordinated a landscape oasis. With a blank slate to start with, several customized elements and only the highest-grade materials, this finished project quickly became a company favorite. She wanted a landscape that provided outdoor areas to entertain and host her upcoming wedding. The overall style needed to coordinate with her craftsman-style home with a few additional contemporary touches to stand out from the wooded scenery. While the design process was a thrilling challenge for the architect, the steep incline of the property proved to be the most difficult aspect. To make a feasible entertainment space, crews built basalt boulder retaining walls that secured the hillside and pool while still looking natural amongst the surrounding landscape. The architect focused on creating a well-organized design that flowed well between elements for optimal entertaining. In addition to the sun-shelf and lumbar jets in the pool, guests can enjoy a full outdoor shower and locker room connected to the outdoor kitchen. Modeled after the homeowner’s favorite vacation spot in Cabo, the cabana-styled covered structure and kitchen with custom tiling offer plenty of bar seating and space for barbecuing year-round. A custom-fabricated water feature provides soft background noise. Sitting just below the pool is a sunken firepit that offers a gorgeous view of the valley. It is surrounded by boulders for plenty of seating options. One dual-purpose retaining wall is a basalt slab staircase leading to the client’s garden. Custom-designed for both form and function, this area of raised beds is nestled under glistening lights for a warm welcome.
