Safety tips from Scott Jamieson

  1. If any landscaper is going to do tree work they should be familiar and practice / follow / adhere to the ANSI Z133 standards for tree care operations. This will give them the baseline safety standards.  http://www.treecareindustry.org/code/gov_standards_z133.htm.
  2. Always, always be tied in/secured anytime you are more than 4 feet off the ground. Yes, even a 4-foot fall can cause serious injury. It's not worth the risk.
  3. Always, always wear personal protective gear.
  4. They should join the Tree Care Industry Association to gain the full operational and safety knowledge that will keep them alive and their business thriving.  http://www.treecareindustry.org/index.aspx.
  5. They should become a Certified Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP). http://www.treecareindustry.org/public/ctsp_about.htm. Offered through TCIA this is an awesome program designed to keep treeworkers safe in our industry.
