For every dollar invested in curb appeal, homeowners in the United States can receive an estimated 1.8 dollar return on their investment. This from the Husqvarna Global Gardening Report 2011, which found well-designed landscaping around American homes raised the perceived residential property value by as much as 18%. Other results identified in the report: An in-ground irrigation system is the most coveted garden tool.


$11 billion
Rebounding from a decline, the power lawn and garden equipment industry is expected to total $11 billion in 2015. That number, which represents both the residential and commercial markets, is predicted to be reached by a 6.4% annual increase each year until 2015. The overall growth will be promoted by an improvement in U.S. housing activity and the return to growth in the landscaping business, according to the report Power Lawn & Garden Equipment: U.S. industry forecasts for 2015 & 2020 by Report Buyer.

Mobile apps are becoming an integral innovation for owners leading small businesses. An AT&T Small Business Technology Poll found nearly 72% of business owners said they use mobile apps in their business and 38% reported it would be a major challenge to survive without mobile apps. The apps are used for saving time, increasing productivity and reducing costs, while GPS/navigation and mapping are the most popular.

Small business owners – defined as companies with 500 employees or fewer – rely on cash from their own pockets. Preliminary results from the 2010 Survey of Consumer Finances found one-third of owners surveyed tap into their personal savings to pay for ongoing operations and investments. The report also indicates that 80% hadn’t applied for a business loan in the past five years.


$409 million
Herbaceous perennial sales totaled $409 million in 2010, up from $392.8 million in 2009, according to the USDA Floriculture Crops Summary. The government agency studied sales from 15 states and the wholesale value of floriculture crops in total increased 3%
year to year.
