Founded in 2006, by Mary and Luke Hawthorne, Emerald Lawns has since provided lawn care services in Austin, San Antonio, Temple and surrounding areas.

Luke Hawthorne will continue to lead the operations at the company.

“While selling Emerald was a tough decision it was made easier knowing that this acquisition will open doors and offer growth opportunities for my employees that I just could not have gotten for them on my own,” he says. “The sales process was seamless and I can sincerely say the whole Senske team was a pleasure to work with. I'm excited to see just how far we can take the continued expansion of Emerald Lawns with the combined resources of Senske and GTCR.  It's a new chapter for myself and Emerald but one I'm looking forward to."

“We are thrilled to welcome the 178 talented employees of Emerald into the ever-growing Senske family of brands,”says Casey Taylor, CEO of Senske Services. “Having spent time with their team, it is evident how they have evolved into a well-established and trusted service provider in Texas."

Senske Services and Emerald Lawns will continue to operate as separate entities, retaining their respective brands, teams and service offerings.

Weller Brothers eyes expansion in Des Moines

Weller Brothers Landscape Professionals is planning a Des Moines expansion early this fall.

“We are so excited to bring our high-end landscape architecture, construction and maintenance services to the greater Des Moines area through this expansion,” says Cole Weller, president and CEO of Weller Brothers Landscape Professionals. “The team we have moving to start the branch location are two of our rockstars, and I could not be happier for them to take on this opportunity. Des Moines is an attractive market, especially with all of the growth in the western suburbs. The expansion also aligns perfectly with our strategic growth plan to enter more markets throughout the Midwest over the next five years.”

Weller Brothers Landscaping is in its 22nd year of business in the Sioux Falls area in South Dakota and in its fifth year of business in Rochester, Minnesota. In both locations, the company provides residential and commercial landscape design and maintenance services.

The company has approximately 150 employees company-wide and expects to earn roughly $25-$28 million in revenue this year.

The new Des Moines branch will be managed by Matt and Anna Stadel, who are currently landscape production manager and landscape architect, respectively, at the Rochester location.

“We are beyond excited for this new opportunity to grow and develop another location for Weller Brothers. With the great support from our other locations, we have no doubt that we will be able to create an awesome workplace backed by high-quality craftsmanship — both of which are traits of our two current branches,” Matt Stadel says.

The company will begin scheduling landscape design consultations in the Des Moines area in early August 2023 with plans to expand into lawn maintenance services within the following year.

Ewing rebranding to Ewing Outdoor Supply

Ewing will immediately update its logo, website domain, company email addresses and advertising.

Ewing irrigation & landscape supply will update its name to Ewing Outdoor Supply to better reflect the customers and markets served. This change took effect on July 1.

A key component of the rebrand is to have the company name support the width of Ewing product categories and the type of customers Ewing serves, all within the outdoor materials space. The company’s product categories and service offerings have grown in diversity over recent years, serving customers products in hardscapes, synthetic turf, outdoor living, sustainable outdoor solutions, micro irrigation, battery-powered equipment, agronomics, mulch and more.

Along with the additional product categories, Ewing added bulk materials yards to its business portfolio in 2018 in select western U.S. markets, operating under the Ewing Landscape Materials brand.

“As we entered our second century in business, we felt an updated name and branding encompassing the width of our full offering helps provide clarity in the market and to customers,” says Douglas W. York, Ewing’s president and CEO. “We believe Ewing Outdoor Supply better speaks to the variety of customers we serve, including contractors, superintendents, turf and sports field professionals and other outdoor landscaping professionals.”

Starting July, Ewing will update its logo, website domain (EwingOutdoorSupply.com), company email addresses, and advertising. The company will roll out additional branding changes throughout the next year.

“My grandfather, King W. Ewing, believed that the only way to do business was to treat the customer right,” York says. “At Ewing, our family of employees continue to embrace King’s founding philosophy. It’s the foundation for everything we do.”
