Product Profile: May 1997, Bedliners Protect Trucks & Equipment

Bedliners from Durakon Industries, Lapeer, Mich., are used by Reliable Lawn Care Inc., to protect the paint and finish on the beds of the company’s pickup trucks.

In the summer, bedliners protect against damage from the constant loading and unloading of bricks, stones and other materials. A rollover lip design at the rear of the liner helps prevent abrasives from getting under the bedliner and scratching the bed’s surface.

Bedliners on other trucks protect beds hauling equipment that is loaded and unloaded several times a day.

Cargo is less likely to shift in the truck bed because of a gripper design with a high coefficient of friction, which keeps equipment in place.

"These Duraliner bedliners are real dependable," said Randy Czajka, co-owner of the lawn care service.

They do a great job protecting the bed surface despite constant use.

WINTER PROTECTION. Made of high density polyethylene, the bedliners are capable of withstanding extreme impacts at temperatures as low as minus 60 F. Reliable puts the bed-liners to the test each winter with extreme weights in Michigan’s freezing temperatures. A 2-ton in-bed salt spreader was installed on one of the bedliners. The spreader remains in the truck all winter and Czajka believes that without the bedliner, the truck would rust from the salt.

The ribbed floor design also helps to prevent rust by promoting air ventilation between the liner and the truck bed, reducing the accumulation of moisture.

Installation is easy and no drilling is necessary. "These bedliners are the first accessory we got for our trucks," Czajka noted.

"They paid for themselves in just a few months."
