For an after-show-hours attraction with bars, restaurants and beauty, check out the Big Four Bridge. Located right next to Waterfront Park, the Big Four Bridge is a walking bridge across the Ohio River that connects Kentucky to Indiana. The bridge was once owned by several different railway companies and was last used as part of the railway system in 1969.
Now, it’s a great place to walk with fantastic views of the Louisville skyline, river and lights on the bridge at night. The area at the base of the bridge is also worth checking out. It was recently given a $730,000 facelift, with the addition of native trees, a paved plaza, enhanced lighting and large planters.
After walking across, you’ll find yourself in Jeffersonville, Indiana. If you’ve worked up an appetite, you’re in luck. The quaint historic town is full of great places to eat and wind down.
Match Cigar Bar offers the perfect marriage of high-quality cigars and a large bourbon selection. They are also known for their handmade small batch cocktails.
Big Four Burgers and Beer offers affordable burgers and a large selection of beers in a pub environment.
If you like to enjoy the scenery while you dine, head west off the bridge and you’ll find a row of restaurants right along the river that all boast great views. For a cozy mountain lodge with American eats, Buckhead Mountain Grill is the place to go. Rocky’s Italian Grill and Kingfish are both long-time local favorites.
If you decide to walk back to the Louisville side before grabbing a bite, a new twist on Mexican street fare and Latin-inspired drinks awaits at Doc’s Cantina.
