An invitation is issued to horticulture industry professionals & their staff in the Mid-Atlantic area for a day of outdoor, hands-on training highlighting the latest field research by Virginia Tech faculty. The Virginia Horticultural Foundation is partnering with Virginia Tech University’s Hampton Roads Agriculture Research and Extension Center (HRAREC) facility in Virginia Beach, Va., to host a Horticulture Field Day on Sept. 10, 2008.
“All Americas’ Horticulture Field Day” is the day’s theme, as two-third’s of classes will be presented and translated in English & Spanish or taught in Spanish only. Learn the latest research findings in disease, weed & insect pest management, successful ways to establish turf and trees, new crops to increase fall sales figures, tools for protecting our river and stream water quality & bedrock horticultural skills and practices taught in Spanish & English.
The Virginia Horticultural Foundation is addressing the need for educating of the ever-increasing Spanish speaking workforce in landscaping, turfgrass care, arboriculture & nursery / greenhouse production. “This outreach to the Spanish-speaking members of the horticulture industry may dramatically increase attendance at our Horticulture Field Day,” states Dr. Pete Schultz, Director of the VTech research facility. “Our 2008 Field Day will reach the managers and their staff who actively install, maintain and grow the plants that make up our landscapes.”
The event will be educational and interactive for the 350+ horticulture professionals who attend. The Virginia Horticultural Foundation is proud to help Virginia Tech and its faculty reach a wide audience of professionals in horticulture and to promote horticultural education activities in the Mid-Atlantic region. Registration and details for the “All Americas’ Field Day” are available on-line at www.vahort.org.
