Bartlett Tree Experts acquires two companies

Bartlett acquired Stansbury Tree Service in northern Maryland and The Haupt Tree Company in western Massachusetts.

Bartlett Tree Experts has acquired Stansbury Tree Service in northern Maryland and The Haupt Tree Company in western Massachusetts.

STANSBURY TREE SERVICE. Since 1996, Stansbury Tree Service has provided residential and commercial tree and shrub care throughout Maryland. The acquisition was completed in February.

Owner operator Patrick Stansbury worked for Bartlett Tree Experts early in his career. He joins Bartlett along with his wife, Dixie, daughter Paige, and son Patrick, a climber. 20 additional employees will make the move.

“We chose Bartlett Tree Experts because I felt they could best care for our clients’ trees and shrubs as we have for the last 26 years. Bartlett has a proven plant health care program which is vital to the care and health of trees and shrubs,” Patrick says.

“We are thrilled to welcome back Patrick Stansbury and his talented team of arborists to Bartlett Tree Experts. Growth through acquisition continues to be a strong path forward for us. Adding resources in the Baltimore area assists us in providing a full range of scientific tree and shrub care services for our customers to maintain healthy, beautiful landscapes,” says Jim Ingram, president and chief operating officer of Bartlett Tree Experts.

THE HAUPT TREE COMPANY. Founded by Erik H. Haupt in 1957, The Haupt Tree Company was built with a focus on tree preservation and plant health care; serving residential, commercial and municipal clients throughout Western Massachusetts, Eastern New York and Northwestern Connecticut.

With the acquisition, 20 Haupt employees have joined Bartlett Tree Experts. As a result, the addition of a new Bartlett office in Suffield, Massachusetts represents Bartlett’s 163rdth operation and second location in Western Massachusetts.

Erik G. Haupt II joins Bartlett as the local manager of its new Sheffield office.

“Bartlett Tree Experts is a family business that has been a leader in the industry for 115 years and is known for its scientific approach to tree care,” Haupt says. “Bartlett’s arboricultural research facility supports its offices in delivering the most advanced tree care solutions available.”

“In its 65-year history, The Haupt Tree Company has focused on professionalism and in providing high quality tree care. With the Haupt team, we are excited to expand our full range of scientific tree care services in Western Massachusetts while continuing to honor our commitment to exceptional safety, science, technology, and customer service,” says Bartlett President and Chief Operating Officer Jim Ingram.

The Haupt Tree Company was most-recently managed by a second-generation of the Haupt family, with Erik G. Haupt II serving as president and general manager and Peter G. Haupt serving as vice president and fleet manager.

The company is accredited by the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA) and includes several members of the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) on its staff. The company is also a member of the Massachusetts Arborists Association (MAA), the Connecticut Tree Protective Association (CTPA) and New York State Arborists, International Society of Arboriculture.

The acquisition, which closed on January 23rd, marks Bartlett’s second acquisition in Western Massachusetts since 2018, when the company acquired C.L. Frank and Company in Northampton. With the addition of a new office in Sheffield, Bartlett currently operates nine office locations in the state.

“The Haupt Tree Company’s outstanding reputation with a focus on delivering high-quality tree and plant health care made the company a good fit for Bartlett," says Nick Vallas, vice president and division manager of Bartlett's Connecticut division. "Both are long-standing family-owned businesses that share the same dedication to quality tree care and customer service. They look at trees from a preservation-first standpoint, have a long history of keeping trees healthy and safe, and offer many similar services to what we provide. Their talented local team has great tenure with the company and there is a tremendous family feel around the entire organization. We are excited to welcome them to the team.”
