Bartlett Tree Experts has named Matt Losey as senior manager of equipment.
In his new role, Losey gains the responsibilities previously managed by Rich Mitchell, who will retire at the end of the year.
Losey began his career with Bartlett in 2012 as a ground person in Hilton Head, South Carolina. Since then, he has held several positions within the company: most recently as a regional safety manager (RSM).
“We are fortunate to be able to promote Matt from within the Bartlett ranks because of his intellectual knowledge of equipment, safety, technology, and associated processes,” says Jim Ingram, president and COO.
Tech savvy and passionate about systems, Losey brings significant field experience to his new role, thanks to the experience he’s gained with Bartlett Tree Experts as a climber, crew leader, arborist representative, local office safety coordinator and RSM.
“During his tenure with Bartlett, Matt has proven himself to be a committed Company advocate. Matt’s experience gives him an overall understanding of the intricacies of Bartlett and will help him to navigate through the challenges our Company faces as we continue to grow and expand our business,” says Chief Financial Officer Carol Donnelly.
Losey is an ISA-certified Arborist, Certified Tree Care Safety Professional (CTSP), and a certified Associate Safety Professional (ASP) through the Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP). He is a four-time Bartlett Champion and served on the President’s Council in 2019. He holds a degree in business from Monmouth University and a degree in forestry from the State University of New York (SUNY) College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) Ranger School.
Working in the field, he says, “I learned how to get the job done – by working as safely and efficiently as possible.”
Losey sees his new position as an ideal match for his long-standing interests in equipment, safety and business systems. Before working for Bartlett, he was a member of the compliance department for a private jet company; focused on keeping the company in compliance with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“I have always had an interest in safety and in helping people. I think what attracted me to this opportunity is the fact that I can use all of my interests and experiences together,” he says.
Losey spent his first few years with Bartlett on Hilton Head Island, where he worked his way up to crew leader and sales representative. After serving as a crew leader in Rochester, New York, he relocated to Pisgah Forest, North Carolina, to act as the local office safety coordinator (LOSC).
While in that role, Losey was one of the primary LOSC trainers for the Southeast Division, partnering with Division Safety and Training Coordinators to train LOSCs.
When he was based in Pisgah Forest, Losey also worked on special projects, which included testing new equipment and developing new processes to improve safety. He was named RSM for the region encompassing the Midwest and Canada divisions in 2020, taking on additional responsibilities in managing the progress and development of the company’s safety and regulatory programs and goals.
Losey says he is looking forward to bringing a perspective of safety management to Bartlett’s equipment programs.
“One of the things that I find the most exciting, is how Bartlett creates growth opportunities for its team members internally. The sky is the limit to the degree you are willing to work hard and challenge yourself,” he says.
