Chalet Ranked Top Single Garden/Landscape Firm in State

Chalet in Wilmette, Ill., a provider of gardening, nursery and landscaping services, was ranked 31st in the list of the top 100 Lawn & Garden Retailers across the United States. With just one location, it was also the top Illinois independent garden center/landscape business.  Chalet reported sales for 2005 were $21.9 million. The findings were reported in the publication, Nursery Retailer’s annual MarketShare 2006 Report.
 
Located at the northeast corner of Lake Avenue and Skokie Road, Chalet provides an extensive selection of goods to enhance your home, inside and out, and an informative educated staff ready to serve its customers. The company also provides complete and award-winning landscape services.
 
“Our retail center includes our nursery, garden shop, garden pharmacy, greenhouse, gift shop, pet shop and renowned education center," says Chalet’s Nursery and Garden Center manager Tony Fulmer. “We have a staff of up to 100 in peak season, many with advanced college degrees including Bachelor of Science degrees in Ornamental Horticulture. It is also one of the few garden centers with a pharmacy and complimentary diagnosis of plant pests and diseases. Including its landscape division, Chalet has more Illinois Certified Nursery Professionals than any other single garden center/landscape firm in the state.” 
 

Tony Fulmer, a graduate with honors from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor's degree in Ornamental Horticulture and a member of Pi Alpha Xi, Honorary Horticultural Fraternity, was named the 2000 Illinois Certified Nursery Professional of the Year.
 
Illinois was second only to California in the number of lawn and garden retailers. At the top of the survey was Home Depot with 2,000 locations, Lowe’s with 1,170 locations, and Wal-Mart with 3,114 locations. 
 
The Chalet dates back to 1917 with the beginning of L.J. Thalmann Architectural Landscaping. Continued growth led to the development in 1942 of the Wilmette Nursery and Garden Center. In 1976, the landscape division expanded, offering more comprehensive services for its growing residential market.   
 
The company is now known simply as “Chalet.”
