Dates for Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course Set

Celebrating 40 years, the education conferernce will be held Jan. 25-30, 2009, in Virginia Beach.

The 2009 Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course will celebrate 40 years of horticulture education at its annual conference Jan. 25 – 30, 2009 at the Founder’s Inn and Spa in Virginia Beach.  Known as one of the nation’s most comprehensive horticulture educational programs, it features more than 90 professional horticulture and business speakers and a choice of more than 140 sessions related to the horticulture and landscape management Industry. 

The five-day conference is divided into industry-specific tracks. Participants can select any track or mix and match subject areas. National and regional speakers present new techniques, university research and advances in Arboriculture, Business & Management, Crew Manager Training, Horticulture Skills, Landscape Management, Landscape Architecture & Design and Plants & Production.

The 2009 Mid-Atlantic Horticulture Short Course allows participants to qualify for all industry continuing education credits and certifications in one place including: ISA, PLANET, NC Board of Landscape Architects, VA Society of Landscape Designers, TVHF Landscape Crew Manager Program, Virginia Certified Horticulturist and Pesticide Applicator Recertification for Delaware, Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington D.C. and West Virginia.

Featured speakers include Jerzy Nowak, Ph.D., Virginia Tech Center for Peace Studies & Violence Prevention; The Honorable W. Tayloe Murphy, Jr., former Virginia Secretary of Natural Resources & House of Delegates; Brian Kane, Ph.D., University of Massachusetts; Bernie Erven, Ph.D., Ohio State University, Professor Emeritus, Chris Martin, Ph.D., Arizona State University, Buddy Lee, nationally-known plant breeder and creator of the Encore Azalea and Bob Lyons, Ph.D., University of Delaware, Longwood Gardens. Robert Hayter, ASLA, with the Hayter Firm, will conduct his special management workshop on Optimum Provision ManagementSM.
