PBI/Gordon Supports Project EverGreen’s GreenCare for Troops
Kansas City, MO – PBI/Gordon Corporation, a leading supplier to the professional turf and ornamental industry, recently helped raise nearly $5,000 for military families needing assistance with lawn and yard maintenance while those in the armed forces are away from home.
Project EverGreen’s signature program GreenCare for Troops is a nationwide outreach program that connects local green industry professionals with men and women serving our country in the armed forces. These volunteers assist with lawn and yard mowing and maintenance for the family home. Currently more than 8,000 military families are receiving help from more than 2,200 volunteers, and the program is expanding rapidly.
Earlier this year, Project EverGreen started an industry fundraising program, "Buck It Up for Military Families," to support GreenCare for Troops. The plan is to use 60 percent of the funds collected for scholarships to help military families interested in pursuing careers in the Green Industry. The remainder will be used to defray administration costs of the program. The "Buck It Up for Military Families" program simply asked industry-employed professionals to donate $1 to support the program.
A total of $2,000 – considerably more than one “buck” per person - was raised for "Buck It Up for Military Families" which the company has agreed to match. In addition, online donations totaled more than $1,000.
