A 43-year-old man died after he was buried in mulch at a landscaping business in west Boynton Beach, Fla. Aug. 24, Palm Beach County Sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said.
James Ross, a co-owner of Top Notch Tree Service and Landscaping, was moving mulch from a pile as tall as 30 feet high when he somehow became buried in it.
Ross, who lived on the property, was last seen alive around 12:30 p.m., and his wife Polly found him buried around 2:30 p.m., Miller said.
Co-workers dug him out, but Ross was already dead. A tractor Ross was using was partly covered in mulch, but he was not on the vehicle when he was found.
Miller said the Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified of the incident, which appeared to be an accident.
