MTD Products acquires CORE Outdoor Power Equipment

Both companies hope to increase availability of gasless technology.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – MTD Products has acquired CORE Outdoor Power, a gasless outdoor power products and equipment company.

CORE brought its motor technology to the outdoor power equipment sector about four years ago and while it has grown and gained traction in the marketplace, co-founder Lincoln Jore said the acquisition will give the company the resources it needs to reach landscapers everywhere.

“We didn’t have the resources to take it to the next level we wanted to see it get to, so we started to look for strategic partners in the industry and obviously MTD being one of the leaders in that industry, it was kind of a perfect marriage of our unique technology with the vast distribution and engineering and sales and manufacturing resources that MTD brings to the table,” he said.

CORE’s Conductor Optimized Rotary Energy motor produces high-torque rotary motion with zero emissions, little noise and torque levels equal to two-cycle gasoline powered engines, which MTD said puts it in a unique position for the portable outdoor power equipment market. It also cited the newly developed lithium power cells as an asset.

MTD, the parent company of Cub Cadet, Troy-Bilt, Columbia and other brands, said the acquisition will lead to more gasless equipment from its brands.

The company is exploring the impact this will have the Cub Cadet cordless line of products.

Jore plans to continue on with CORE, focusing on maintaining the high quality of their products and growing into new regions.

“Lincoln and his father [co-founder Matt Jore] did a great job of creating a unique value proposition in terms of gasless technology that is on par with gas products so it was something that was very intriguing for us to grow our business as well,” said Aaron Hanlon, senior director of marketing at MTD.

Prior to the purchase of CORE, MTD also acquired Precise Path Robotics, an Indianapolis-based company that has brought to market the world’s only commercially available autonomous greens mower, the RG3, designed specifically for golf course putting greens.
