Village Nurseries hosts horticultural encounter

The third annual series will feature guest speakers with topics on planting themes for landscape professionals.

ORANGE, Calif. – In response to popular demand by landscape architects and designers, Village Nurseries Wholesale has announced the Third Annual Horticulture Encounter April 10-21 at its Huntington Beach Landscape Center at 10500 Garfield. The event will give landscape professionals a deeper understanding of how and where their plant offerings will thrive.

As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to help landscape professionals keep current on the latest plant material trends, Village Nurseries also will sponsor a Guest Speaker Series that features keynote presentations from top professionals who will present invaluable information for all attendees. This event is presented in conjunction with the Horticultural Encounter, but in a more casual format with hopes that the ?exible times will ?t more professionals’ schedules.

Landscape professionals will be able to tour through several plant vignettes showcasing plants best suited for today's landscape situations:
Perfect Pairings – plants that bring out the best in each other; Dreams of Deep Shade – plants that thrive in shady areas; Animal Attraction – plants providing habitat for critters; Dry Lush Delights; Mediterranean Marvels; Succulent Sensations; and Supreme Screens.

Guest Speaker Series
April 12, 5-7:30 p.m.
An Evening Under the Stars – Starting with “Modern irrigation technologies for high performance landscapes” followed by “”Set the mood, set the scene: an FX Luminaire lighting experience.” Wine and cheese will be served under the stars for the evening light show.

April 13, 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The Queen of Succulents – Dehra Lee Baldwin “Do’s and don’ts for succulent landscapes:” Baldwin will discuss commonly-made mistakes, terrific yet underutilized succulents, lawn-to-succulent conversions, top designers’ signature styles, perfect plant pairings and companions worth considering. She will also have her books on hand for purchase and autographing.

MWELO Authority – Lance Sweeney – Ensuring water efficiencies in landscapes is the responsibility of the landscape design team and required by local municipalities. With 36 years of experience, Sweeney will bring his expertise on hydrozones and irrigation design to explain how to comply with today’s Water Efficient Ordinances (WELO). He will share helpful tools to design a hydrozone and irrigation plan to conserve water and get plans approved quickly.

April 20, 10:30 a.m.-noon
Nicholas Staddon “The Plantsman” – One session is all in Spanish; one on English. The success of an installation has much to do with the plants one chooses and proper installation. Learn about Village Nurseries’ new plants, as well as Kellogg Soil Products, whose experts will demonstrate how to properly plant along with the right soil preparation.

April 19, 8:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.
Breakfast with Bill – Bill Darlington is a soil scientist with Waypoint Analytical who has been evaluating soils and diagnosing plant health issues at landscape projects, nurseries, greenhouses, amendment suppliers and farmers for over 30 years. Join him to learn about the most important soil issues that everyone needs to know, and “the good, the bad and the ugly” of soil amendments.
