Express Blower announces Tier 4 Final configuration

The EPA standards are required for certain off-highway diesel engines.

EUGENE, Ore., – Express Blower has received certification on its self-contained machines as required by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Tier 4 Final, European Union (EU) Stage IV and California Air Resources Board (CARB) emissions standards.

The Express Blower models impacted are the TM-45MD, TM-45HD, TM-70MD, TM-70HD, and the compact SKHD. “These models are our high volume, high output machines built for more extreme conditions and materials,” says Carla Severe, Express Blower marketing manager. “Nearly two years ago, the goal was set to provide not only a product that met all emissions requirements but would also provide customers with improved safety, performance, and serviceability. This means that other components were given a thorough review to ensure that our customers and our equipment received the full benefit of this redesign.”

John Deere Power Systems was chosen to provide the new engine packages. The JD PowerTech PSS 6.8L engine powers the MD models, while the HD machines use the JD PowerTech PSS 9.0L engine. Each engine package is equipped with an Integrated Emissions Control system configured with cooled exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), a diesel oxidation catalyst (DOC) and diesel particulate filter (DPF), as well as a selective catalytic reduction (SCR) system. The DOC/DPF reduces particulate matter while cooled EGR and the SCR system reduce nitrogen oxides.

Other improvements to the Tier 4 Final EB machines include a simplified control system for system stability, ease of operator training, and the ability to update with new functions or capabilities while in the field by simply using a USB drive. There is also an enhanced, patent-pending hydraulic control system that delivers more power where it is needed, as well as providing better reliability and serviceability. Blower power (cfm/psi) remains unchanged or improved on all models.

The Express Blower self-contained units operate off their own diesel engines and can be trailer- or truck-mounted. The nature of this model also allows for different power packages – MD (medium duty) and HD (heavy duty). Due to the required integration with a chassis, Express Blower’s current EB-60 and EB-45 product line already meets Tier 4 Final requirements. (Chassis manufacturers were previously required to meet the standard.)
