RICHMOND, Va. – Volunteers from Yard Works are helping with Richmond Public Schools’ Beautification Week, an event from Aug. 18-25 to encourage members of the community to volunteer on various school maintenance projects.
The Yard Works volunteers will be working from Aug. 21 to the 23, handling multiple landscaping projects at three different Richmond-area public schools; Fisher Elementary School, Southampton Elementary School and Huguenot High School.
The first day will see the Yard Works volunteers removing dead limbs from Southampton Elementary trees and installing mulch in the main entrance.
The volunteers will partner with crews from Wrightway Landscaping and Arborscapes to do heavier work at Fisher Elementary on Aug. 22. This work includes removing limbs, trimming Crepe Myrtles, removing dead bushes, installing mulch and fixing a drainage issue in the school’s gutter system.
The last day puts Yard Works volunteers at Huguenot High School alongside TNT Landscaping to clean up outdoor areas near the entrance. The financial value of all three days’ work is a $7,500, but Yard Works president Jim Bolinger says it’s worth it.
“I’m really excited to help make these schools look really nice for the students, parents and teachers,” Bolinger said. “Having pride in your school and your community is important for everyone and I think we can make a big difference.”
