Winners of Truckee Meadows Water Authority's 2008 Water-Efficient Landscape Awards have been announced. The winners, who are all TMWA customers, received up to $1,000 in prizes for entries evaluated on aesthetics, efficient irrigation system, plant selection and mulches.
"We received great entries this year," said Andy Gebhardt, supervisor of TMWA customer services and conservation. "The entries are examples of the many different ways homeowners can create and maintain beautiful landscapes, while still conserving water."
Awards were given in two categories, design by homeowner and design by professional. Winners in the design by homeowner category include first place Randy Niederberger of Sparks; second place Randall Gray of Sparks; and third place Stephanie Schoen of Reno. Design by professional winners include first place Claire Christie of Sparks with Bugica Landscaping and Gail Willey Landscaping; second place David and Bebe Carrico of Reno with Ed Wilson as their landscaper; and third-place Sandi Sullivan of Reno with Interpretive Gardens.
Judges included Gebhardt, Jason Perry of Western Turf, Pawl Hollis of Rail City Garden Center and Scott Gescheider of Moana Nursery.
Contest sponsors were Seasons Lawn and Landscaping, Dayton Valley Turf, Dry Creek Garden Co., Moana Nursery, Nevada Home Magazine, Outdoor Environments of Nevada, Rail City Garden Center and Western Turf.
