Rain Bird Corporation has acquired OtO Inc., a Toronto-based smart lawn care company known for its solar-powered sprinkler system.
Founded in 2019, OtO's flagship product, the OtO Lawn Smart Sprinkler, simplifies and automates hose-end watering — especially for small or irregularly shaped spaces. It uses weather-responsive, app-controlled technology to precisely print water only where and when it's needed. OtO has received industry recognitions like the CES 2022 Best of Innovation Award in the Smart Home category and inclusion in TIME's Best Inventions of 2022.
“This acquisition allows Rain Bird to serve a broader range of homeowner needs,” says Rain Bird Vice President of Technology and Innovation Michael Roberts. "OtO’s innovative approach to smart irrigation aligns perfectly with Rain Bird’s mission to promote the intelligent use of water.”
OtO’s technology complements Rain Bird’s existing portfolio by serving homeowners who want automated irrigation but are not interested in installing an underground system.
“Since founding OtO, we've been inspired by Rain Bird's commitment to excellence and industry leadership,” says Ali Sabti, CEO and founder of OtO. “Joining forces allows us to continue to delight customers and to bring more innovative solutions to market."
“We are thrilled to welcome the entrepreneurial and inventive OtO team as part of our long legacy of delivering pioneering products,” says Rain Bird President and CEO Mike Donoghue. “This collaboration brings together the strengths of both Rain Bird and OtO, creating exciting opportunities for growth. Together, we’re advancing our shared vision of enhancing the enjoyment of green spaces through innovation and sustainable water use.”
OtO will continue to operate under its own brand and remain headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, as a wholly owned subsidiary of Rain Bird.
